Ibu saya selalu menginginkan anaknya sukses, tapi ukurannya sederhana: harta benda. rumah megah, mobil mewah, dan uang berlimpah menjadi simbol yang ia dambakan. Sebagai pegawai negeri biasa, saya tak pernah memenuhi ekspektasinya. Sebaliknya, Dito, sepupu saya, adalah bintang di mata ibu. Setiap kedatangannya disambut istimewa. Dari makanan lezat hingga perhatian penuh, semua diberikan untuk Dito. Di mata ibu, Dito adalah lambang keberhasilan yang seharusnya saya tiru.
Hari ini, Dito kembali hadir di rumah kami dengan penampilannya yang perlente. Ibu sibuk memuji-muji kesuksesannya. Dito terlihat berkilau dengan jas mahal dan mobil mewah yang ia bawa. Setiap kali ia berkunjung, ibu memintaku untuk menemaninya, berharap kesuksesan yang ia kagumi bisa menular padaku. Saya hanya diam, menahan kelelahan dan rasa tak nyaman, memilih untuk tidak melukai kebanggaan ibu. Ibu berharap saya senang bisa belajar pada Dito.
“Tentu, Bu. Apalagi semua makan, bensin, dan pengeluaran Dito selama di sini selalu saya yang bayarkan.” Wajah ibu seketika memucat, ibu terdiam seketika. Kesuksesan yang selama ini ia puja ternyata dibiayai oleh anaknya sendiri, yang selama ini ia anggap tak berhasil.
