Tanah di hadapanku mulai lembek ketika banjir akhirnya mereda. Saat aku menggali lubang pertama bagi para korban yang ditemukan di sepanjang sungai, dadaku terasa sesak oleh kenyataan yang terbentang tanpa belas kasihan. Dalam hati, aku hanya mampu berkata, “Beginilah harga ketika alam dipaksa menyerah.” Tubuh-tubuh itu datang silih berganti, hening dan tanpa protes, seolah ingin mengingatkan bahwa bencana tak pernah memilih siapa yang harus lebih dulu pergi.
Setiap kali cangkul menghantam tanah, bau lumpur bercampur kehilangan menyeruak, menempel pada napas dan ingatan. Para relawan lewat membawa jenazah berikutnya. Wajah-wajah yang dulu hidup dalam ritme sederhana, kini tertidur dalam keseragaman yang memilukan. Melihat mereka, aku berbisik lirih, “Ini bukan sekadar musibah; ini peringatan yang ditulis dengan nyawa.” Tanah di sekelilingku terasa ikut berduka, seakan enggan melepaskan tubuh-tubuh yang baru direbut dari keluarga mereka.
Ketika liang terakhir selesai, pandanganku tertuju pada bukit yang gundul dan sungai yang menyimpan gelondongan kayu, bukti kejahatan yang tak pernah diakui. Sebuah kalimat muncul seperti pengakuan yang terlalu lama tertahan: “Yang mati bukan hanya manusia, tetapi hati kita yang membiarkan alam dilukai.” Saat tanah menutup jenazah itu satu per satu, aku tahu setiap gundukan menyimpan pesan: jika manusia tak berubah, kelak akan ada lebih banyak kuburan daripada tangan yang sanggup menggali.
