Pak Hamdan berdiri di teras rumah barunya, menikmati udara malam yang menggantungkan aroma tanah basah. Rumah di sebelahnya selalu menarik perhatiannya. Setiap malam, lampunya menyala remang, dan setiap subuh, terdengar dentingan sendok dan piring seolah ada yang tengah bersantap sahur. Kadang, ia melihat seorang lelaki tua termenung di balik jendela, wajahnya sayu seperti menanggung rindu yang tak tersampaikan. Ada keheningan yang ganjil, tetapi Pak Hamdan mengabaikannya, menganggap itu sekadar kebiasaan penghuni lama.
Menjelang Idulfitri, dorongan hati membuatnya memberanikan diri mengetuk pintu rumah itu. Tangannya menggenggam erat rantang berisi makanan sahur. Namun, pintu yang didorong perlahan terbuka sendiri, memperlihatkan ruangan berdebu dan perabotan tua yang terselubung kain putih. Tak ada tanda kehidupan. Jantungnya berdegup kencang, tangannya gemetar saat melangkah lebih dalam. Di sudut ruangan, ia melihat kalender lusuh yang masih tertanggal Ramadan bertahun-tahun lalu. Napasnya tercekat saat teriakan seorang satpam yang lewat “rumah itu sudah lama kosong.”
Pak Hamdan melangkah mundur, tubuhnya lunglai. Tapi sebelum ia berbalik, matanya terpaku pada cermin besar di ruang tamu. Di balik bayangannya sendiri, samar-samar ia melihat lelaki tua itu menatapnya, tersenyum tipis, dan berbisik lirih, “terima kasih sudah mengunjungiku.”
