Hampir sepanjang hidupnya, Pak Wiji mengabdikan diri pada keluarga Danuarta yang terkenal dalam dunia bisnis. Ia seorang sopir yang menjadi saksi dari perjalanan seorang pria yang membangun dinasti. Sejak kepergian istri Pak Danuarta, ia menjadi satu-satunya pendamping sang tuan, mengantarnya dari satu pertemuan ke pertemuan lain, bahkan ke sesi-sesi rahasia yang hanya sedikit orang tahu. Namun, hidupnya tetap bersahaja, bahkan sering utang di supermarket dekat rumahnya untuk menyambung kebutuhan sehari-hari.
Kehidupan seperti roda yang tak henti berputar. Ketika Pak Danuarta meninggal dunia, Pak Wiji kehilangan pegangan. Tiada lagi suara yang menyapanya tiap pagi, tak ada lagi perjalanan panjang yang mengisi harinya. Dalam kebingungan dan kehilangan, ia memilih kembali ke kampung halaman. Di sana, ia menggelar doa bersama, mengenang sosok yang telah begitu lama memberinya tempat. Namun, di tengah khidmatnya suasana, kepala desa mengucapkan sesuatu yang membuat napasnya tertahan.
“Pak Wiji, tanah yang membentang luas ini, rumah dan supermarket, termasuk pabrik gabah, semuanya kini milikmu. Ini warisan yang disiapkan Pak Danuarta. “Pak Wiji terguncang, matanya berkaca-kaca. Selama ini, ia hanya merasa menjadi bayangan, namun kini ia sadar, kesetiaan tak pernah berlalu tanpa jejak. Pak Danuarta telah memastikan bahwa langkahnya tak akan lagi tertatih dalam kesederhanaan yang penuh keterbatasan.
